Discussion leader Logeerhuis Mierlo
Who are we looking for?
At our location we are looking for a discussion leader (psychologist) who can provide accessible first psychological help for the Ukrainian young people who live with us.
We are looking for someone who has experience working with a target group between the ages of 15 and 25. This is because we know that the problems of this target group can differ from the problems of both adults and children. Young people in this age group are at a vulnerable stage of their lives and the young people who stay with us have to navigate this without direct access to their safety net of family and many other acquaintances.
Like many Dutch young people, young people who stay with us regularly deal with depression, self-image problems and substance abuse. In addition, the young people who stay with us often come from families in which, before the war, there were already many problems in the form of (substance) abuse, abuse, or absent parents.
In addition, this target group offers other challenges because, in addition to their age-specific problems, these young people often also have to deal with problems that arise from their situation, namely fleeing war in their home country. Young people here sometimes experience PTSD complaints caused by having to leave home and family behind, they have a lot of worries about family who have been left behind and some young people also have war-related traumas. We also regularly experience that young people within our residential group have to deal with the loss of a loved one in their home country at a young age and go through a grieving process here. Because the combination of these factors leads to the formation of complex trauma problems in young people, we are looking for a psychologist who has experience with this.
The young people who stay at our location often find that they have little future prospects in the Netherlands. They have no prospect of an education in the Netherlands and do not know how long they will be welcome in the country. This makes it difficult for them to look ahead and engage in integration. Life has been on hold for them for about three years. As a result, they experience increasing unrest and are therefore more susceptible to addiction problems.
At our location, the young people live together in a group of 52 young people and some sleep with a stranger in the room. Due to unrest in the group and differences in rhythm, the young people regularly sleep poorly. Although we try to pay as much attention as possible to the individuals who stay with us, we notice that young people get stuck in their self-development, partly because there is little opportunity for privacy for them in this living situation.
Finally, we accommodate 18 minors who are under the guardianship of the NIDOS organization. Experience working with children under guardianship is therefore an advantage.
